At 20 years old, Dr. Nate Champion was hospitalized for 10 days with severe Ulcerative Colitis and lost 38 pounds. Gastroenterologists told him his entire colon needed to be removed. He chose naturopathic medicine instead, and it changed the course of his life. As a result of his own success in overcoming Ulcerative Colitis, he is passionate about helping others who are suffering with digestive conditions.
Dr. Champion has been in private practice since 2007, with a strong focus in inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn’s Disease), Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). He is a founding board member, past Treasurer, and current member of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (GastroANP). He sees patients of all ages with all kinds of acute and chronic conditions, and many seek him out after years of symptoms without clear answers. He is known for successfully treating patients with very complex medical conditions. In addition to his passion in treating complex digestive conditions, Dr. Champion has a strong focus in preventive cardiology and cardiometabolic health.
He is also a brain tumor survivor and has seen the value of conventional medicine in his own life. He has a special place in his heart for brain surgeons. For his patients, he uses the best of what both conventional and naturopathic medicine have to offer. Through his background in exercise physiology, Dr. Champion understands how much diet and lifestyle changes matter in achieving optimal health. He utilizes clinical nutrition, along with botanicals, nutraceuticals, homeopathy, lifestyle modifications, and specialized diagnostic laboratory testing. Dr. Champion loves spending time with his patients, understanding their concerns, and helping them in their journey towards optimal health. After a thorough intake, health history, and any pertinent physical exams and laboratory tests, he develops an individualized and comprehensive treatment plan specific to you and your health concerns.
When he is not practicing, Dr. Champion loves staying physically active and spending time outdoors with his wife, Dr. Nita Champion, their two daughters, and two dogs. He is an avid motorcyclist and also enjoys woodworking, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, gardening, landscaping, and many other outdoor activities. Dr. Champion received his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from nationally accredited Sonoran University of Health Sciences (formerly Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine) in Tempe, Arizona, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He is registered in the state of Minnesota by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. He is also past Vice President and current member of the Minnesota Association of Naturopathic Physicians (MNANP).
